'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: Welcome to the (Japanese) 'Office'

Hey girl… did you know Ryan Gosling is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend for the very first time?

As an SNL virgin, Gosling might need a few tips, which he could get from his Big Short co-star Steve Carell. Not only is Carell a veteran of television comedy, he’s also hosted SNL twice (2005 and 2008). Plus, he’s married to former cast member Nancy Walls.

To learn from a master like Carell, all Gosling needs to do is watch this throwback clip from 2008. Carell sends up his hit comedy, The Office, with a Japanese parody version (and the sketch is introduced by Ricky Gervais, creator of the British version of The Office).

Carrell speaks (fake) Japanese as the boss, Kristen Wiig giggles politely behind her hand as Japanese Pam, and Japanese Jim (Jason Sudeikis) pranks Japanese Dwight (Bill Hader). There’s just a lot more bowing. And karaoke.

See if Gosling can take a page from his Big Short co-star’s comedy playbook this Saturday when he hosts with musical guest Leon Bridges.
