'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: And the Trainwreck Award Goes to…

Tears, overly long speeches, awkward banter between presenters — yes, it’s finally Oscars time! After weeks and weeks (months and months?) of awards season, the movie industry’s biggest night (Hollywood’s Super Bowl) airs Sunday night. Leonardo DiCaprio will likely go home with his first Academy Award, while the Best Picture race is an unpredictable battle among The Big Short, The Revenant, and Spotlight.

But the Oscars won’t be anywhere near as fun to watch as Saturday Night Live’s Trainwreck Awards. This hilarious sketch from 2004 featured Maya Rudolph as Diana Ross and Amy Poehler as Anna Nicole Smith, hosting the American Trainwreck Awards — “celebrating the most embarrassing moments in American entertainment.”

Not unlike the Oscars, there are flubbed teleprompter readings, an inappropriate makeout session, and a groan-worthy musical number. And of course, the who’s who of trainwrecks make appearances, from Tara Reid to Mickey Rourke to Tony Danza.
