'Labyrinth' 'Reboot'? Screenwriter Says That’s Not Her Path

Over the weekend, reports swirled that Sony had bought the rights to Labyrinth from the Jim Henson Company and was developing a return to the puppet-filled universe, with a script from Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman. Now Perlman has taken to Twitter to clear the air, explaining that, while she was working on a Labyrinth project with the Henson Co., it was not in any way a remake or a reboot. “No one is remaking Labyrinth. That movie is perfect as it is,” she wrote, pledging that “any continuation of the world [will] be handled with love and respect.” Perlman told The Guardian that she was heartbroken by the implication that she or anyone else was attempting to profit from the death of David Bowie, as the project has been in development since late 2014: “All I can say is that the timing for the story was awful; it felt like a punch in the gut.” So there you have it: No Labyrinth remake, maybe a Labyrinth sequel/prequel. As the Wiseman once said, the way forward is sometimes the way back.
