30th Chicken Jamboree takes place in Thompson Falls

Jul. 19—Several hundred Sanders County residents participated in the 30th annual Chicken Jamboree last weekend.

Sponsored by the Christian Men's Prayer Group out of Thompson Falls, the jamboree was well attended on a hot Saturday. Lots of food and hospitality were on hand. People gathered to listen to several Christian musical groups and eat drumsticks cooked by Christian Men's Prayer Group President Don Burrell.

Helping on the large barbecue grills were Steve Burrell and Bob Butte.

The Jamboree took place at the Power Park in Thompson Falls. The park was extensively renovated this past spring to include new restrooms and a new enlarged pavilion.

Music was provided by The Gospel Mountain Band, The Steep River Band, Bob Sink on his fiddle, Bernie Carpenter on his harmonica and 92-year-old Art Lacer on his guitar.

Tammy Raines dawned her colorful chicken costume and strutted her stuff until the heat of the day took its toll. This was her first year in the outfit and she spent some of her time flagging down cars along Montana 200.

The luncheon and music were free, but donations were accepted. Money from the event was going to help local non-profits like Helping Hands and Kids for camp.
