WWII-era paintings at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

In 1942, at the age of 50, Japanese-born artist Takuichi Fujii was forced to leave his home on the Pacific Coast by the U.S. War Relocation Authority to live in isolated incarceration camps. From that time until his release at the end of World War II in 1945, Fujii documented his daily life in an illustrated diary; pieces of which can now be seen at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens as part of its exhibition, “Witness to Wartime.” The work displayed is intimate, poignant and provides a perspective on the daily lives of those who lived in the incarceration camps. Make the time to see this important show!

“Witness to Wartime: The Painted Diary of Takuichi Fujii”: Through Oct. 6. Museum admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $9 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for members and children 5 and under. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach. Info: 561-495-0233 or morikami.org.
