Beyond the Sun, a two-level restaurant serving American and international fare, is set to host its grand opening in December, according to its website. The restaurant and lounge will take over the former Mellow Mushroom location on Bardstown Road, following a five-year vacancy at the Highlands address.

The concept comes from owner Amet Bullaudy, who also owns Sol Aztecas Mexican Restaurant on Bardstown Road.

Beyond the Sun will offer a diverse menu, including burgers, tacos, pizza and chicken wings, plus an extensive bourbon and tequila list. The second-floor patio will also have bar with 50 beers on tap, a stage for live music and other events, the Courier Journal previously reported.

Beyond the Sun will be open daily.

The Misfit Lou will soon be joining the downtown Louisville scene.

After some delays to the renovation of the two-level space, owners Martin Svab and Ryan Hughes-Svab have decided to start with opening the downstairs bar and event space. Called The Hereafter, the couple described the space as "our late 19th century-inspired cocktail parlor, with some tribute to New Orleans, that will feature live jazz, blues, bluegrass acts along with film nights."

The upstairs concept, which will focus on serving sandwiches, sausages and craft beer, will open within the next few weeks, they told the Courier Journal.

The building was formerly occupied by Jimmy Can't Dance and Another Place Sandwich Shop.
