These 3 Phoenix restaurants were named among best mom and pop shops in the US

Yelp and Entrepreneur media released their first-ever list of America's Favorite Mom and Pop Shops and three metro Phoenix restaurants and bars made the list.

Yelp created the list by identifying independently-owned and operated businesses in the following categories: restaurants, nightlife, food, hotel and travel, shopping, event planning and services, art and entertainment, beauty and spas, home and local services, fitness and instruction. Then using multiple factors such as volume and ratings created a ranking system.

Nine Arizona businesses made the cut, including three restaurants, bars and bakeries, all from Phoenix.

Here are the three Phoenix eateries named among the best independent businesses in America.

Dos Chris’ Bakery & Charcuterie Co.

Dos Chris refers to owners and husbands Christopher and Christopher Barbara who channeled their love of baking and charcuterie into a business in 2021 and opened a brick-and-mortar shop in 2022 in uptown Phoenix. Some of the menu items include rose blossom gourmet cupcakes, sea salt coconut oatmeal cookies and, of course, elaborate charcuterie boards.

Rating: 5 stars from 40 reviewers.

Reviewer quote: "What a wonderful and phenomenal bakery and charcuterie business," wrote Tyler E. "We stopped in on a whim after seeing the adorable delivery van and were blown away; both by the selection of goodies but also the amazing service. Their support for the LGTBQ+ community was the cherry on top of a picture perfect weekend goodie stop. Absolutely recommend their cupcakes and cookies; the Cookie Monster was OUT of this world."

Elevated Taproom

Colorado-born brothers Hunter and Warren Wood opened the Phoenix location of Elevated Taproom in 2022. The name, stylized as "Elvtd" is a reference to Denver's Mile High elevation, while their plane logo signifies wanderlust. The taproom serves award-winning hard seltzers and a menu of bar foods like wings, pizzas and burgers.

Rating: 5 stars from 79 reviewers.

Reviewer quote: "This is the best seltzer I have ever had. It's smooth and it's made from real fruit. I could drink this stuff by the gallon, and there may have been an evening or 2 that I did," wrote Joe P.

Original Breakfast House

John Stidham retired from the restaurant industry after 35 years and moved to Phoenix from Colorado. But shortly after his arrival in 2013, he decided he "had one more restaurant" left in him, and proceeded to open the now beloved breakfast restaurant. The menu features diner foods like omelets, crepes, waffles and French toast, and other breakfast staples.

Rating: 4.5 stars from 2538 reviewers.

Reviewer quote: "Favorite breakfast place in Arizona," wrote Katherine F. "It's always worth the wait if you go on the weekend. I tend to plan my trips for weekdays to avoid the crowds. And there is a reason why people will wait an hour just to get in the door. The chilaquiles with chicken are my go-to order. I haven't tried anything else because why mess with a good thing?"
