Netflix has officially announced the 3 Body Problem Season 2 renewal for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ latest sci-fi epic drama. This comes after after nearly two months since the series debuted its 8-episode first installment, which spent seven weeks in the streamer’s Top 10 TV Shows.

“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo said in a joint statement (via Tudum). “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

Who’s involved in 3 Body Problem?

Based on Liu Cixin’s 2008 novel, 3 Body Problem is created and executive produced by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who are also serving as showrunners. The ensemble cast consists of Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong, Jonathan Pryce, Rosalind Chao, Ben Schnetzer, and Eve Ridley. It is executive produced by Bernadette Caulfield, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Lin Qi, Zhao Jilong, Xiaosong Gao, Lauren Ma, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, Rosamund Pike, and Robie Uniacke.

“A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day,” reads the series’ official synopsis. “When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”
