3 Body Problem Getting Shock Second Season on Netflix

3 Body Problem is getting a second season, as announced in a tweet by Netflix.

The sci-fi series’ co-creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo said in a joint statement: “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

Based on the 2008 novel 3 Body Problem by Chinese author Cixin Liu, Netflix’s adaptation premiered March 21 on the streaming service. It tells the story of humanity’s first contact with an advanced alien civilisation, who task a select few with solving video-game-like challenges to test their mental capabilities.

The show got a 78% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t amazing for something by the makers of Game of Thrones. However, it’s enough for Netflix to greenlight a follow-up.
