Celebrate National Pi Day this Thursday with these Springfield pies
Fruit, custard, cream or savory? No matter the pie preference, there's bound to be a flavor that suits everyone's taste around Springfield.
National Pi Day, the holiday that recognizes the mathematical constant that is π, is on Thursday, March 14. Also known as pi, the most commonly recognized digits are 3.14, which is why the holiday lands on March 14 each year. The News-Leader compiled a list of nine different restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores offering Pi Day specials and pre-orders. This list is not comprehensive, as there are countless businesses that make and sell pies.
Prairie Pie
For Pie Day only, Prairie Pie is offering a Frankenpie, one sweet pie featuring eight slices and four different flavors. The pie will feature two slices of each: caramel apple, chocolate pecan, matcha custard and key lime. Frankenpies are available for pre-order and will only be available for pickup on Thursday, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pre-orders can be placed on the Prairie Pie website at prairiepie.com/order/frankenpie. One Frankenpie is $35.
Prairie Pie also offers whole caramel apple, chocolate pecan, matcha custard, and key lime pies available for pre-order. Mini four-packs, take and bake pot pies (chicken or curry vegetable), cookies (banana chocolate chip, orange snickerdoodle, nori black sesame chocolate chip and rosemary shortbread) and pie crust can also be ordered from the restaurant.
Village Inn
Known for its pie cases, Village Inn also offers pies available for pre-order. These include French Silk, Southern Pecan, Caramel Pecan Silk Supreme, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, Country Apple, No-Sugar Apple, Cherry, Strawberry Rhubarb, Triple Berry, Peach, Key Lime, Lemon Meringue, Lemon Supreme and Banana Cream Pies. Whole pies range from $12.99-15.99. Pies can be pre-ordered on the Village Inn website at villageinn.com/Menu/Category/whole-pies-cakes.

Springfield's Village Inn restaurants are located at 2036 Glenstone Ave. and 4222 S. Campbell Ave. Both restaurants are open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Blue Heron Farm & Bakery
Looking for something on the savory side? Blue Heron Farm & Bakery on C-Street offers four different types of hand pies: Chicken Pot Pie Roll, Sausage Roll, Chorizo Egg & Cheddar Roll and Spinach Mushroom Egg & Feta Roll. The hand pies range from $14-16. Blue Heron Farm & Bakery is located at 206 E. Commercial St. and open Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
London Calling Gourmet Pasty Company
London Calling Gourmet Pasty Company also offers several savory pies, including a Shepherd's Pie (ground beef, peas, carrots, onion and mushroom topped with mashed potatoes) for $7.99 and Steak & Ale Pie (beef, onion, carrot braised in dark beer) for $7.99. London Calling also offers a Banoffee Pie, which is a graham cracker and butter crust filled with caramel, bananas and whipped cream.
London Calling operates a walk-up window at 14 Mill Market in Nixa, which is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The London Calling food truck is also regularly available throughout Springfield. Beth's Bake Shoppe & Tea Room
Beth's Bake Shoppe & Tea Room offers several whole pies available for pre-order. These include Cherry, Caramel Apple, Peach, Apple, Blueberry, Buttermilk Custard, Egg Custard, Lemon Chess, Chocolate Cream, Mile High Coconut Cream, Luscious Lemon, Key Lime, Chocolate Chip Pecan, Turtle Brownie, Pecan and Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pies. Beth's fruit pies are available as crumb, lattice or two-crust pies. Whole pies range between $27.99-29.99.
Beth's Bake Shoppe & Tea Room is located at 1645 W. Republic Road Unit D. The tea room is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dublin's Pass Irish Pub
Dublin's Pass Irish Pub serves up an authentic Scratch Pub Pie, which is a flaky, buttery pastry with chicken, vegetables and fresh garlic mashed potatoes, for $14.50. The downtown pub is located at 317 Park Central East and open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight. Another location is at 2915 E. Battlefield Road and is open everyday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
Farmer's Gastropub
Known for its farm-to-table Irish cuisine, Farmer's Gastropub offers a Cottage Pie, which contains ground beef, carrots and celery topped with mashed potatoes, for $18. Farmer's Gastropub is located at 2620 S. Glenstone Ave. and open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hy-Vee
In addition to fresh pies available in the bakery, Hy-Vee offers pre-order options, too. Orders can be placed on the Hy-Vee website and then picked up at a local store, or delivered. Hy-Vee offers Apple, Banana Cream, Coconut Meringue, French Silk, Lemon Meringue, Pumpkin and Southern Baked Pecan Pies. All whole pies are available as 10-inches, some 12-inch pies are available, too. Prices range between $13.99-14.99.
Springfield's Hy-Vees are located at 1720 W. Battlefield Road and 2150 E. Sunshine St. Both stores are open everyday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Pie Box
Located in Nixa, The Pie Box offers a variety of cream, frozen, fruit and other novelty pies. Made to order, each pie is 10-inches and serves eight people. Prices start at $18.95. Orders can be placed on The Pie Box website at thepiebox.com or by calling The Pie Box at 417-886-4743.
