Indiana Jones is an institution. The hat. The grin. The John Williams score. The movies are a spectacle—packed with adventure, humor, and some questionable ancient history. Forty years ago, on June 12, 1981, Indy hit theaters for the first time in Raiders of the Lost Ark. If the boulder chase in the opening sequence didn't get you, Indy's fear of snakes sure did.
