25-year-old North Carolina climber plunges 30 feet in Colorado park, police say

Rescuers were training nearby when they rushed to help a climber, Colorado deputies said.

A 25-year-old from Raleigh, North Carolina, fell about 30 feet from Eldorado Canyon State Park’s largest peak on Monday, May 23, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shortly after 3 p.m., rescuers received a call for help.

“Rescuers from the Mountain View Fire Protection District were in the State Park on a training exercise and were able to get to the injured climber quickly to provide first aid,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The climber was stabilized and carried about a quarter-mile downhill. The climber, who was not publicly identified by the sheriff’s office, was taken to a hospital in the Boulder area.

The person had non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. The climber was rescued in about an hour.

The climber was on the Redgarden Wall before the fall, according to the sheriff’s office. It’s the largest cliff in the state park at over 6,000 feet, according to the Mountain Project.
