‘21 Jump Street’ Female Spinoff Taps Rodney Rothman to Write and Direct
Rodney Rothman, who penned “22 Jump Street,” has come on to write and possibly direct a spinoff to Sony’s “21 Jump Street” franchise that would focus on two female undercover cops.
Sony is still developing “MIB 23,” which combines the “21 Jump Street” universe with the “Men in Black” one, and this latest project is just another property to build on the popular series.
Rothman also penned the script to “MIB 23.” Neal Moritz is producing.
The film revolves around two female cops who go undercover as students in some sort of school setting. The previous two “Jump Street” pics starred Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, with the first film set at a high school and the second based at a college. “21 Jump Street” grossed $201.6 million worldwide in 2012 and the follow-up made $331.3 million two years later.
Hill and Tatum are still attached to return to “MIB 23,” but it’s unknown if they will have a part in this latest spinoff.
Rothman most recently wrote the comedy “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” starring Andy Samberg. He is repped by UTA.
