2024 Gold Derby Film Awards nominations: ‘Barbenheimer’ dominates

More than 2,200 registered Gold Derby users worldwide voted for the 2024 Gold Derby Film Award nominations, and “Oppenheimer” came out on top with 14. “Oppenheimer” contends for Best Picture in addition to Best Director (Christopher Nolan), Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and Best Ensemble Cast. In the Best Picture race it’s nominated against the courtroom drama “Anatomy of a Fall,” the blockbuster comedy “Barbie,” the period comedy “The Holdovers,” the historical epic “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the psychological drama “May December,” the critically hailed indie romance “Past Lives,” the outlandish fantasy “Poor Things,” the animated marvel “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” and the disturbing Holocaust film “The Zone of Interest.”

Of those films, “Barbie” came closest to “Oppenheimer’s” total with 13 noms. It’s also up for Best Director (Greta Gerwig), Best Actress (Margot Robbie), Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling) and Best Ensemble Cast. Gerwig is actually part of a historic Best Director slate. For the first time in Gold Derby Awards history women make up the majority of the nominees there with Gerwig joined by Celine Song (“Past Lives”) and Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”). Nolan and Martin Scorsese (“Flower Moon”) round out the race.
