Currently in the frontrunner position is Jodie Foster (“True Detective: Night Country”), who has yet to even be nominated for an acting Emmy at this point in her 55-year career.

Foster would be the first actress to receive an Emmy mention for “True Detective,” which has produced four seasons over the past decade. Its previous three acting notices went to inaugural season costars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (who competed for Best Drama Actor in 2014) and third season lead Mahershala Ali (2019).

Hoping to soon achieve second wins in this category are Claire Danes (“Full Circle”; formerly of “Temple Grandin”), Kate Winslet (“The Regime”; “Mildred Pierce” and “Mare of Easttown”), Julianne Moore (“Mary & George”; “Game Change”), Nicole Kidman (“Expats”; “Big Little Lies”), and Amanda Seyfried (“The Crowded Room”; “The Dropout”). Also in the running is Uzo Aduba (“Painkiller”), who won the corresponding supporting award for “Mrs. America” in 2020.

Non-winning category veterans hoping to once again catch the attention of voters are Annette Bening (“Apples Never Fall”), Joey King (“We Were the Lucky Ones”), and Sigourney Weaver (“The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart”).
