As you prep your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Comedy Actress, make sure to check out our photo gallery that catalogs the likeliest contenders. Including newly promoted 2023 supporting champ Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), three past winners are presently leading the pack, practically ensuring one of the most exciting acting races of the year.

Edebiri’s expected challengers include this category’s reigning victor, Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), and 2021-2022 winner Jean Smart (“Hacks”). Brunson already lost to Smart two years ago but was honored that night for writing her show’s pilot episode.

More from GoldDerby

None of the four actresses Brunson beat last year are in the running this time. Both Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) starred on series that concluded during the last eligibility period, while Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) won’t continue in their roles soon enough to qualify.

Looking to make a comeback is 2004 winner Sarah Jessica Parker, who now plays her “Sex and the City” character, Carrie Bradshaw, on “And Just Like That.” Past contenders who could be recognized for new roles are Kaley Cuoco (“Based on a True Story”) and Amy Schumer (“Life & Beth”).

Actresses seeking bids for new comedy series include Jaz Sinclair (“Gen V”), Kristen Wiig (“Palm Royale”), and Michelle Yeoh (“The Brothers Sun”).
