Will Bachelor Nation be taking a break from the beach this summer?

ABC announced its inaugural leading lady for the first-ever "The Golden Bachelorette" season this upcoming fall, giving the honor to Joan Vassos, who fans saw leave "The Golden Bachelor" early last year for family reasons.

"The secret is out," Vassos wrote on Instagram Stories on Monday. "I'm honored to be the first Golden Bachelorette."

This comes over a month after ABC announced Jenn Tran, 26-year-old physician assistant student living in Miami, as the new "Bachelorette." Tran is the first-ever Asian lead for the Bachelor Nation franchise.

In the midst of the exciting Bachelorette news and shows, many are wondering the status of another fan favorite spinoff — Bachelor in Paradise?

The show is responsible from some of the funniest moments, nastiest fights and, surprisingly, strongest relationships in the entire franchise. What will fans do if they don't get their slice of paradise this summer (a.k.a watching attractive people potentially find love in the most chaotic situations)?

Is 'Bachelor in Paradise' canceled for 2024?

While the summer spinoff is still missing from ABC's fall lineup so far, officials have not made any announcement on the show's status.

Why do fans think 'Bachelor in Paradise' is canceled?

The biggest reason why Bachelor Nation thinks the show is postponed this year is because there haven't been any announcements on it. However, the show's official Instagram posted about its return last summer on May 16, with the official cast lineup following in August.

It also it did not help that former host Chris Harrison, who hasn’t been associated with the franchise since he left in 2021, added to the cancelation rumors. Harrison was replaced by current host and former "Bachelor" Jesse Palmer.

Harrison made claims about the status of the spinoff on an episode of his podcast, “The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever." With guest host, former contestant Dean Bell, he said that he was a "little bummed to hear that 'Paradise' has allegedly been postponed."

"I think is the official way they’re saying it is, they’re postponing it for a year or canceling it,” Harrison said.

Bell did respond by saying, “I did hear some whispers about that.”

It's not only Harrison who has commented on the state of the spinoff. Steve Carbone, otherwise known as Reality Steve, is known for spoiling all things "Bachelor" and getting the inside scoop. The blogger has made similar comments about hearing news that the summer show is taking a hiatus this season.

Are 'Bachelor in Paradise' ratings down last year? See theories on why it might be canceled

The biggest theory behind the potential boot is the apparent lack of viewership over the years.

Decider shared earlier this year that the two most recent seasons for "Bachelor in Paradise" show the series has been losing viewers for years. Season 7 episodes averaged 2.9 to 3.3 million viewers, while Season 8 episodes averaged around 2.3 to 245 million viewers, according to tvseriesfinale.com, a source for TV cancellations and news ratings.

In comparison, Forbes called season 5 a "ratings goldmine" and mentioned how episodes brought a total of 3.5 million viewers.

Another theory fans have floated around is that the show is getting nixed to prioritize "Golden Bachelorette" filming. Women's Health reported that filming for the other successful spinoff is said to begin in June.

Where and when does 'Bachelor in Paradise' film?

Referring back to Reality Steve, he shared on his podcast that, "'Bachelor in Paradise' starts filming the same time it does every year: basically the 6th/7th of June." He also added that the show shoots the entire month, specifically "anywhere between 21 days and 24 days."

Since the show's start in 2014, it has filmed at the luxury Playa Escondida Resort in Sayulita, Mexico, located 40 minutes from Puerto Vallarta.

Has 'Bachelor in Paradise' ever been canceled before?

Yes. The show was canceled back in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How did the Florida cast members do on 2023 season of 'Bachelor in Paradise?'

An additional theory brought up by fans on why the show might possibly be up for cancellation is that Season 8 didn't lead to any successful couples. In fact, all three couples that left the show, either engaged or in a relationship, were broken up around the time the finale aired in December.

That was the case for Tampa native Katherine Izzo, who viewers saw get engaged to John Henry Spurlock. However, the two announced their breakup with a joint Instagram post (which was later deleted at an unknown date).

“While our paths are taking different directions due to our career goals not aligning, we are grateful for the love and support we’ve received from our family, friends, and Bachelor Nation," John Henry wrote.

As for how the other Florida contestants fared on the show, they didn't have happy endings either. Winter Springs resident Jess Girod has opened up about her time in “Bachelor in Paradise," explaining why she didn't find a match in Blake Moynes in time and ultimately left alone.

Former "Bachelorette" Rachel Recchia also didn't find a match on the beach, with viewers commenting that the Clermont native was put through the ringer. After unsuccessful dates with several guys, she ended up leaving the show on her own.

If 'Bachelor in Paradise' does return, here's which Floridians could get a second (or third) chance at love

If the reality television gods still decide to give us Bachelor in Paradise, fans could see plenty of Florida contestants from last season and previous season arrive at the beach. Here's some noteworthy Floridians from Bachelor Nation to look out for:

  • Starr Skyler of Delray Beach

  • Kyra Brusch of Miami

  • Samantha Washington of Miami

  • Marlena Haddad of West Palm Beach

  • Caleb Balgaard of Orlando

  • Sean McLaughlin of Tampa

  • Jess Girod of Winter Springs

  • Kat Izzo of Tampa

When do the 'Bachelor' and 'Golden Bachelorette' return to our screens?

Until we get the official word on Bachelor in Paradise, we can still enjoy the two new bachelorettes gracing our screens this summer and fall season.

In an Instagram post on May 3, ABC announced that "The Bachelorette" with Tran will premiere on Monday, July 8 at 8 p.m. ET. According to sources, the season already started filming back in April.

As for the spin-off of ABC’s “The Golden Bachelor” with Gerry Turner of Indiana, it will air Wednesday nights in fall. The episodes will be 90 minutes long — 30 minutes longer than last season.
