The Fine Art of Summer Camp

Location: Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd.; one session at Garcia Arts & Education Center, 2021 Agnes St.

Age group: Completed kindergarten to 12 years old

Details: The Art Museum of South Texas, an affiliate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, hosts 10 different sessions of visual and performing arts camps for children ages K5-12 throughout the summer. Campers are instructed in a variety of visual and performing arts activities such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, pantomime, improvisation and musical theater. On the final day of each camp, an exhibition of the work produced and a public performance is held for families and friends.

Young People's Theatre Camp at Harbor Playhouse

Location: Harbor Playhouse, 1802 N. Chaparral St.

Details: Each session this year will be a one-week session where children ages 6-15 can create, produce and perform their very own musical right on the Harbor Playhouse main stage! Throughout the day campers will build acting, dance and voice skills, and characterization alongside team leadership, ensemble work, creative growth and friendships that will continue throughout their lives. Each group will learn one musical number to both sing and dance to, along with one group number that the entire camp will learn to close the show. Musical numbers are chosen by camp staff and are tied into the script based on either the scenes written or theme of that particular camp.

Details: The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi summer theatre workshop, Camp on the Coast, is a two-week residential camp designed for high school students seeking a highly intensive and creative theatre experience.  Participants will rehearse and perform in a one-act play directed by one of five highly successful theatre educators. Students interested in performance will study acting, voice and movement in morning classes taught by TAMU-CC Theatre faculty. Returning campers will take a three-hour master class in acting and movement. Technical theater students will attend classes in design; participate in the creation of each production’s sets, lighting and costumes; and serve as crew for the shows.

Del Mar College All-State Choir Camp

Del Mar College Viking Summer Band Camp

Details: The Viking Band Camp is open to all students grades six through 12 who have at least one year of playing experience on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. Details: The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Band Camps offer middle school, junior high and high school students the opportunity to come to the "Island University" and experience island life in a relaxed atmosphere. The camp is open to all high school and middle school students with at least one year of experience on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students will experience music-making with TAMUCC faculty and other outstanding music artists and educators. Details: Students in third through eighth grades have a fun opportunity to explore new academic areas, upgrade basic skills, create special interests, meet new friends and participate in a structured, informative, non-pressured academic environment. As Del Mar College’s youngest students, Vikings Kids Camp participants can choose from a variety of courses related to math, Spanish, party planning, reading, keyboarding and a youth culinary camp for high school students (9th-12th grades), among many other topics. Youth will be engaged all summer long in our recreation centers' S.P.A.R.K. program — from playing pool, foosball, air-hockey, board games, and arcade games to getting creative with arts and crafts, tournaments, as well as outdoor sports and play, guest speakers, field trips, and so much more. Morning and afternoon sessions are available to select from. A snack will be provided during each session. Participants must be signed in daily by an adult. Details: The YWTeens Leadership Camps are dynamic, three or four-day workshops designed to teach group dynamics, leadership skills and multi-cultural communication skills. Texas Surf Camps

Details: Texas Surf Camps has been teaching surfing through summer camps for 19 years, with the primary focus on surfing instruction and practice in a safe environment. Their goal to provide each camper with the confidence and knowledge to continue the great sport of surfing on his or her own after camp is over. We also teach ocean education and awareness through fun, hands-on games and activities and presentations from organizations such as Surfrider Foundation. No surfing experience required, but MUST have basic swimming skills and be comfortable in the ocean.

Details: The Lozano Junior Golf Program is a three-day golf camp, with an objective to teach students the fundamentals of golf from the short game to the full swing. Summer Camps at Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve

Location: Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve, 2446 N. Oso Parkway

Details: The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department invites children to join the Oso Preserve staff for a wild summer and observe science outdoors. During these half-day, weekly camps, youth will explore nature and participate in interactive hands-on activities and exploration. For the 5- to 10-year-olds, campers will experience fun mornings of exploring the preserve out on our nature trails, using equipment like binoculars and microscopes, complete nature crafts, activities, games and more. For the 11- to 15-year-olds group, campers will take daily field trips to explore a preserve, kayak, tour a facility that rehabilitates marine turtles and birds, and go on a research vessel to explore the Corpus Christi Bay.
