The State of the Race

The 95th annual Academy Awards are already top of mind as not only the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences goes through major changes under the new CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang, but the film industry itself is at a turning point in 2022.

More from IndieWire

We have already seen big swings like “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Elvis,” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” enter the awards conversation, and fall festival premieres like “The Fabelmans,” “Bardo,” and “Empire of Light” seem sure to make an impact as well.

If that were not enough, there’s still “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” to keep in mind, two highly anticipated sequels to Best Picture nominees that also happened to be a couple of the highest grossing films of all time.

For insight on the films, filmmakers, and stars we expect to make it all the way to Oscars night, see the individual prediction pages listed below. IndieWire’s Oscar predictions will be refreshed throughout the race, so bookmark this page for the most accurate list of frontrunners out there, and make sure to follow IndieWire on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest Oscars news.
