This year’s Met Gala theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and attendees have been asked to dress “in honor” of the late designer, who spent more than six decades at the top of fashion houses like Chanel and Fendi in addition to helming his eponymous label.

Met Gala 2023 Guest List: Confirmed and Likely Stars
The 2023 Met Gala guest list is expected to include stars like Kim Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Elle Fanning and Florence Pugh, along with models Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid, who appear on the current cover of Vogue, as three of Lagerfeld’s muses.
Blackpink fans will be thrilled to see Jennie walking the red carpet. Fresh off Blackpink’s Coachella performance, Jennie is likely to be at the Met Gala since she is a current Chanel brand ambassador.
Other Chanel ambassadors expected to make the Met Gala guest list include Margot Robbie, Lily-Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart.
According to reports, other confirmed Met Gala guests for 2023 include Jennie’s Blackpink bandmate Rosé, Pete Davidson, Elvis star Austin Butler, Kaia Gerber and Brooklyn Beckham (with wife Nicola Peltz). BTS star Jimin recently filmed a behind-the-scenes video for Vogue and is subsequently expected at the Vogue gala as well.
And fashion and music fans alike are always hoping for appearances from the likes of Rihanna, Harry Styles and Beyonce, though none of them have confirmed their attendance just yet for 2023.
What Is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser and opening celebration of the Costume Institute’s newest fashion exhibit. Unlike other A-list celebrity events like the Oscars and the Grammys, the prestigious Gala is not an awards ceremony. Those famous enough to be invited by Anna Wintour, the event’s chairperson, will still have to fork over $30,000 for a single ticket or up to $300,000 for a table (oftentimes, fashion labels will pay the price of a celebrity’s ticket in exchange for wearing their clothing).
Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty
This year’s Costume Institute exhibition will be accompanied by a new book that’s also titled, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. The 436-page tome traces the legendary designer’s career from his early designs for Chloé and Fendi in the 1960s and 1970s to his celebrated run at Chanel. The coffee table book includes never-before-seen sketches, photographs and interviews with some of Lagerfeld’s friends and collaborators, many of whom were still close to the designer up until his death in 2019.
