2023 Emmy Nominations: Best Drama Supporting Actor

Matthew Macfadyen, who prevailed on his second Best Drama Supporting Actor Emmy bid for “Succession” last year, is the clear one to beat in the current race. He is one of four featured men looking to be honored for the HBO series this year, with the category’s other four slots being filled by actors from the same paycaster’s “The White Lotus.” Scroll through our gallery to learn more about these eight nominees and be sure to make your predictions for the 75th Emmys by September 18.

The only 2022 contender who Macfadyen could have faced again is Nicholas Braun, who succeeded in landing his own third bid for “Succession.” The show’s other two supporting male nominees, Alan Ruck and Alexander Skarsgård, are new to the category, but the latter did compete as a guest star last year and has an Emmy to his name for his featured turn on the limited series “Big Little Lies” (2017).

“White Lotus” nominees Theo James and Will Sharpe are total Emmy newcomers, while one of their cast mates, F. Murray Abraham, has been recognized outside of this category for “Homeland” and “Moon Knight,” and another, Michael Imperioli, won this same award on his third of five tries for “The Sopranos” in 2004.
