If you’re from the east coast, it’s very likely that you have a pair of Sperry boat shoes in your closet.
Since 1935, Sperry has been making its iconic shoes that are designed to never slip even when on a wet surface, prompted after founder Paul Sperry slipped from the deck of his sailboat. While other brands have created competing boat shoes (like Cabela’s and Margaritaville), there is only one original.
Now available in both leather and canvas versions, the Top-Sider shoe has become an iconic piece of footwear. Celebrities and public figures, including JFK, Paul Newman, Lauren Hutton and Mr. Rogers, all have worn the preppy style, and they are even worn by Richard Dreyfus in the hit movie “Jaws.” More recently, Justin Bieber wore a navy blue pair of Sperrys during his wedding festivities.
