The 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards saw a series of surprise wins, including four wins for underdog comedy nominee “Fleabag” and best lead actor in a drama series for Billy Porter. Tony Shalhoub and Alex Borstein took home trophies for their roles in “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” while Patricia Arquette nabbed the best supporting actress in a limited series award for “The Act.” While the drama categories for best directing and writing were surprises, with wins for “Ozark” and “Succession,” respectively, “Game of Thrones” still took home best drama series for its final season. Jodie Comer’s win for best lead actress in a drama series over her “Killing Eve” co-star Sandra Oh also proved a shock for some.
