2 the Theatre: ‘Where Did We Sit on the Bus?’ is a show unlike anything you’ve seen

DENVER (KDVR) — Daybreak anchor Chris Parente has reviewed stage productions for over a decade. In that time, he’s seen everything from Broadway hits to black box experiments. Yet, the new production of “Where Did We Sit on the Bus?” has left even a seasoned theatergoer at a loss for words.

As a one-person show, the production is a retelling of the author’s childhood. It explores growing up, finding your place, finding where you came from and coming to own your identity and your power.

It’s an immigrant story with themes both timely and poignant.

2 the Theatre: ‘Emma’ gives new life to an old classic

But more than the plot, it’s the staging that simply electrifies. Using a series of iPads, microphones and instruments, lead actress Satya Chavez quite literally “remixes” the soundtrack live and in real time.

Part improvisation, part “beat poet,” and 100%, unlike anything you’ve seen.

“Where Did We Sit on the Bus?” is running right now at the Denver Center for Performing Arts Singleton Theatre, with shows through June 2. Tickets can be purchased at the theater’s website.
