DENVER (KDVR) — The Broadway revival of “Company” is on stage right now at the Buell Theatre.

Seasoned theatergoers will remember the 1970’s original that helped cement Stephen Sondheim as a legend of the Great White Way. But Channel 2’s Chris Parente said the current revival brings a new life and a new perspective to the musical comedy classic.

The lead character is now a woman, performed with charm and honesty by the divine Britney Coleman. Chris said the show still holds in its exploration of relationships, partnership, marriage and “being alone.”

Bottom line, Chris said the show was considered “concept” theatre in the ’70s, and it’s still just enough off-center that not everybody will find it compelling. But there’s simply no beating the magic of Sondheim, and this production gets a four out of five “Parentes” from our resident theatre critic.

“Company,” is on stage through June 2 at the Buell Theatre. For tickets and information, head to the Denver Center for Performing Arts website.
