2 SLO County cities just smashed heat records. Is more warm weather on the way?

It may be the last day of November, but it’s feeling more like summer here on the Central Coast.

Two San Luis Obispo County cities broke heat records on Tuesday, besting decades-old heat records as warmer-than-average temperatures take over the Central Coast.

The city of San Luis Obispo broke its daily heat record on Tuesday for the second day in a row, with a recorded temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.

The previous record for the date was 83 degrees, which was set in 1996, according to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.

On Monday, the city also broke its previous daily heat record of 81 degrees, set in 1980, with a recorded temperature of 85 degrees at the airport, Lindsey said.

Lindsey said the city of Paso Robles also broke records later Tuesday afternoon.

Paso Robles reached a high of 82 degrees, besting the previous record of 76 degrees set in 1995, Lindsey said.

According to the National Weather Service, Paso Robles also broke its heat record Monday, with a temperature of 81 degrees. The previous record for that day was 77 degrees, set in 1995, according to the Weather Service.

Meanwhile Santa Maria just missed out on breaking its previous heat record of 83 degrees, set in 1959. The Santa Barbara County city hit a high of 81 degrees on Tuesday.

Temperatures across much of the region have been warmer than usual for this time of year.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures across Central California are expected to be around 10 degrees above normal through the end of the week.

Lindsey said high pressure over California has produced a pattern of gusty winds and higher temperatures.

The Central Coast might start getting some relief as soon as Wednesday, however.

According to Lindsey, the marine layer is forecast to return along the San Luis Obispo County coastline later that day.

That layer will move inland overnight starting Wednesday afternoon through Friday, he said, producing cooler daytime highs and warmer overnight lows along the beaches and coastal valleys.

Mild weather will likely stick around through the start of next week, he said, though there is a chance of rain around Dec. 7 and 8.
