Two popular Midtown Memphis restaurants have closed.

Here is a look at what we know about each closure.

Pantà

On Friday, Pantà owner Kelly English announced he is closing the restaurant and turning it into an events space. English also owns Restaurant Iris, The Second Line and Fino's.

"It better for us a company to do less things better," he said. "We will be focusing on our core business — which is Iris and Second Line."

The closure is effective immediately.

English opened Panta in 2021 in the building that had been the original Restaurant Iris, 2146 Monroe Ave. The tapas restaurant and bar was known for its cocktails and Barcelona-inspired fare.

Belly Acres

Belly Acres announced Sept. 18 that it has closed its original location in Overton Square.

"Our Midtown location will be closed until further notice. Please visit our Regalia location instead — 6130 Poplar Ave. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to see you soon!" a Facebook post stated.

Owner Lee Scifres was not available for comment. It is unclear if the closure is permanent, or temporary.

Known for its “Citified Farm Fresh” burgers and shakes, Belly Acres opened its first location in 2014 in Overton Square at 2102 Trimble Place. The chain opened a second location in East Memphis at 6130 Poplar Ave. in late 2020. A third location is in the works in Southaven's Silo Square.
