2 people bitten by sharks in Myrtle Beach on same day, police say

Two people were bitten by sharks on the same day earlier this week off the coast of Myrtle Beach, the local police department said.

WPDE -- Channel 9′s affiliate station in Myrtle Beach -- reported that the two people were bitten on Monday within blocks of each other, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The first bite happened on 75th Avenue North and the second shark bite happened north of 82nd Avenue in Myrtle Beach, MBPD Master Corporal Thomas Vest said.

Vest told WPDE the local beach patrol works with the Florida Program for Shark Research at the University of Florida to identify marine animal bites, specifically sharks.

No information on the condition of the shark bite victims was immediately available.
