We’re guessing Ole Miss can’t wait until the football season officially begins.

Per the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Ole Miss linebacker Detric Bing-Dukes and cornerback Ken Webster were arrested for shoplifting Tuesday evening.

“We are gathering facts on the matter,” Matt Luke said through a university spokesman.

The arrests occurred at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday and were made by the Oxford Police Department. Webster and Bing-Dukes were released at 8 p.m. through Al Williams Bail Bonds.

The report doesn’t detail what the players are accused of stealing. Both players are expected to be key figures in the Ole Miss defense this fall. Bing-Dukes is a possible starter at middle linebacker and had 41 tackles and three tackles for loss in the fall.

Webster will likely see some time in the secondary as well if he’s fully recovered from a knee injury that he sustained in the Rebels’ game vs. Florida State to open the 2016 season. His knee buckled as he jumped to defend a pass and he had to be carted off the field.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for Ole Miss as the school deals with the NCAA allegations against the football program and a lawsuit against it regarding those allegations by former coach Houston Nutt. And then, as you likely know, former coach Hugh Freeze resigned two weeks ago after phone records showed he dialed a number connected to a Tampa escort service.

Luke, the team’s offensive line coach, was named the interim coach in Freeze’s place.

Ole Miss officially kicks off the 2017 season on Sep. 2 vs. South Alabama.
