2-Year-Old Critically Injured After Finding a Gun That a Teen Allegedly Discarded at Playground

A Las Vegas toddler was critically injured after accidentally shooting herself with a gun that was discarded in the playground of a daycare, according to multiple reports.

The 2-year-old reportedly picked up the gun, which discharged, shooting the toddler, police said, according to the Associated Press.

Police said the gun was dropped at the playground by a teenager who was allegedly involved in an altercation on a city bus, the AP, 8 News Now and FOX 5 Vegas report. The teen allegedly shot a man on the bus and fled by running through the daycare playground, according to the reports. The teen was not publicly identified due to their age, but was arrested shortly after.

“I mean, nobody expects their 2-year-old to be shot, this was completely a senseless act,” Tawnya Rosenthal, a friend of the toddler’s family, told FOX 5 Vegas.

Rosenthal told the outlet that the girl was placed in a medically induced coma and was shot in the chest, three inches from the heart.

The man shot on the city bus was also hospitalized, the AP reports.
