1958 Cadillac Sixty-Two Sedan Is Junkyard Treasure
I find plenty of surprises during my junkyard travels, including some fairly solid postwar Detroit luxury machinery that— in my opinion— shouldn't have been discarded. You'd think that someone would have wanted to grab a 1958 Cadillac Sixty-Two Sedan in flamboyant Tahitian Coral pink paint before it hit the inventory at a Denver self-service wrecking yard, but such was not the case.
In fact, a competing yard a couple of miles away has a pink 1959 Cadillac sedan parked out front, trying to find a buyer before it, too, hits the yard between an Olds Aurora and a Saturn L200.
In 1958, the price of a new Sixty-Two sedan started out at $4,891, or about $46,035 in 2021 dollars. 1958 was a tough recession year, with new-car sales plummeting, so shoppers had to be brave to spring for a brand-new Cadillac at that time.
Under the hood, a mighty 365-cubic-inch (6.0-liter) V8 pushing 310 horsepower through a four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. These cars were very fast for their time.
