When a celebrity announces they’re expecting a baby, you know what’s next — in addition to a slew of adorable bump pics, stars often share their super-cute gender reveal. And just like in the “real” world it’s always fun to share in the nervous anticipation and subsequent joy that comes from the parents finding out what they’re having. Bonus? Celebrities typically take gender reveals to the next level, staging elaborate photo shoots or videos to make the big reveal.

It merits mentioning, of course, that gender is a social construct. What these celebrities are actually finding out is the sex of their baby, which is biological. But for the purpose of this article, we’re referring to these types of announcements as “gender reveals” since, well, that’s how most people refer to them. However, we understand that the standard “blue or pink” parties don’t encompass other gender identities such as trans, genderqueer, non-binary, and more.

Still, many people choose to do gender reveals because it’s one of those cute customary things you do to celebrate the impending arrival of your little one. It’s a moment filled with emotion and awe, making it fun for the rest of us to watch, too. In that spirit, let’s take a look at some of the best celebrity gender (read: sex) reveals.

Ashlee Simpson & Evan Ross

In May, Ashlee and Evan recruited baby’s big bro Bronx (her son with ex Pete Wentz) and big sis Jagger to make their reveal. As a family, they cut into a cake and found telling blue sprinkles inside. “SO STOKED 2 MEET MY BABY BOY,” wrote Evan on Instagram, joking, “As u can tell Jagger wanted a sis.”

Briana & Ryan Culberson

As the daughter of Vicki Gunvalson, Briana Culberson grew up before our eyes on The Real Housewives of Orange County. Now, she has a brood of her own — which is about to grow by one more. On May 24, she and husband Ryan Culberson took to Instagram to share a video of a muzzle-loader firing out a big cloud of blue smoke. That’s boy No. 3 for these two!

Lindsay Arnold & Sam Cusick

A massive spray of bright pink confetti rained down on Dancing With the Stars pro Lindsay Arnold and husband Sam Cusick to reveal their first child with be a little girl.

Eniko Parrish & Kevin Hart

What better day to drop some big baby news than on Mother’s Day? On May 11, Kevin Hart and wife Eniko shared that they are expecting their second child together by posting a photo of the couple, his daughter Heaven and son Hendrix, their son Kenzo and, of course, Eniko’s burgeoning bump! “OH BABY, it’s a little lady,” she gushed.

Claire Holt & Andrew Joblon

47 Meters Down and The Originals actress Claire Holt kept it simple but super-fun for her and husband Andrew Joblon’s second child. Upon popping a giant black balloon covered in white question marks, a cloud of pink confetti hung in the air.

Bekah Martinez

A baby gender reveal that includes a feast? Yes, please! Bachelor alum Bekah Martinez and boyfriend Grayston Leonard let a sign reading “Oh boy” do the talking as they chowed down on grapes and cheeses (but no wine, naturally).

Ciara & Russell Wilson

Mere days after Ciara announced she and her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, were expecting a second child together, they held a joy-filled gender reveal party. Standing with kids Future Jr. (her son from a past relationship) and Sienna Princess, they fired off confetti cannons to announce another… son!

Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom

Listen, anyone who uses cake frosting to announce their child’s gender is automatically a cool parent in our book. That’s the route Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom went, with Bloom wearing pink icing all over his face. “It’s a girl,” Perry simply captioned the oh-so-sweet snapshot.

Alexei Brovarnki & Loren Brovarnik

The new year brought big new revelations for 90 Day Fiance’s Loren Bovarnik and husband Alexei Brovarnik. On Jan. 2, they shared a cute series of photos from their gender reveal party. What color did their confetti cannons spray? Blue. It’s a boy!

Jamie Otis & Doug Hehner

Another reality TV success story is growing their fam — last November, Married at First Sight’s Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis revealed their two-year-old daughter is getting a baby brother. And, TBH, their method of cracking eggs on their heads to divulge a colored yolk looked like one heck of a good time.

Ray J & Princess Love

Uh, talk about taking gender reveals to a new height! To clue fans in to their second baby’s gender, Ray J and Princess Love hopped on a chopper and watched as it released colored smoke into the air. The result? A puff of blue clouds, and a baby boy on the way for the ecstatic couple.

Danielle Brooks

If you haven’t been following Orange Is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks on Instagram, go now and do so. Her baby Freeya might just be the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. We may be partial, though; we’ve been looking forward to getting a glimpse of the precious girl since Brooks let her gender slip in a clip for her Netflix Show A Little Bit Pregnant.

Carly Waddell & Evan Bass

Bachelor in Paradise lovebirds Carly Waddell and Evan Bass revealed their second child was a boy — how else? — during a televised Bachelor ceremony. During the live moment, a giant cake was rolled onto the stage. Surprise! Out popped fellow BiP alum Wells Adams, who was wearing a blue onesie (and proceeded to jump in Daddy Evan’s arms).

Eva Amurri & Kyle Martino

Pre-split, Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino gathered their precious family together on the porch of their home to find out the gender of their “tie-breaker” — the pair has one daughter, Marlowe, and one son, Major. And, well, Marlowe found out she’d soon be outnumbered when blue confetti burst out of the family’s popped balloon.

Allison Holker & Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss

Here’s the thing: You can’t get much cuter than Dancing With the Stars pro Allison Holker and her Ellen Show husband Stephen “tWitch” Boss. Unless, that is, you bring their kids into the picture. Back in August, they posted beautiful photos from their gender reveal party, announcing another little girl would be joining the family.

Shay Mitchell & Matte Babel

I mean, are there even words to describe how epic this is? Pretty Little Liars’ Shay Mitchell and boyfriend Matte Babel found out they were having a girl when a Pink Power Ranger defeated a Blue Power Ranger in a fight staged by Mitchell’s assistant.

Johnny Galecki & Alaina Meyer

Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki and girlfriend Alaina Meyer had the right idea in using paint to announce they were having a baby boy —kids are messy, right?

Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson

To announce the gender of their third child, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson shared a stunning photo of their daughter Maxwell and son Ace releasing a cluster of pink balloons into the air. “This little baby girl will make us a family of five,” Simpson wrote. “We couldn’t be happier to announce this precious blessing of life.”
