This was after Phoenix beefed up to play a hitman in Lynne Ramsay’s “You Were Never Really Here.” He’s since put back on 25 pounds but still has that wraith-like physique as seen in the film. “Joker” director Todd Phillips said of Phoenix’s look in an interview with Vanity Fair that he looked like a bird from the Gulf of Mexico having tar rinsed off its body. “He’s got the most interesting form,” Phillips said. “He’s so beautiful.”
