15 Questions for 'Independence Day: Resurgence' Star Jessie T. Usher

It’s only natural that Jessie T. Usher is playing Will Smith’s son in this weekend’s Independence Day: Resurgence. After all, the 24-year-old actor reveals to Yahoo Movies that his all-time favorite show is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That’s one of 15 fun facts we learned about Usher in our latest “15 Questions” video, where we quizzed the Resurgence star about his first acting gig, his favorite movie and his favorite place in the world. (Spoiler: It’s his grandmother’s house. Cue the “awwws.”)

With Smith’s ace pilot Steven Hiller not returning for Roland Emmerich’s long-awaited sequel to the 1996 alien-invasion hit, Usher takes over flyboy duties as Dylan Hiller. (The sequel reveals that the elder Hiller was killed in a crash years before Resurgence begins.) Dylan is joining the fight just in time: After a 20-year break, the invading extraterrestrials are back, and bigger than ever. Even though Smith wasn’t on set, Usher says that he has learned a lot from watching his onscreen “father” over the years. “Will Smith is my career idol,” he says, adding that one of his dream projects is a superhero movie in the vein of Hancock. We smell another sequel! Hancock 2: Like Father, Like Son.
