We shop for a living — here’s what we’re buying ourselves

When you shop Amazon for a living, you get good at shopping Amazon. Like, really, really good.

Through our deal-hunting work at PEOPLE Shopping, my colleagues and I have become masters of the site’s many filters, semi-hidden landing pages, and sneaky search phrases that lead us to the best products at the best prices. And we wind up doing a little shopping for ourselves along the way. As we prepped for October Prime Day, which kicked off this morning and runs through tomorrow, I asked my coworkers what they’d be buying themselves during the sale event.

Standouts include a best-selling knife sharpener that’s marked down from $30 to $10, a genius “fur zapper,” and a pair of top-rated sweatpants just in time for cozy season.

“I’ve seen the light of the hair dryer brush and I am hooked. The round brush I have now is too big for my thin hair, so I’ll give it to a friend if this viral Revlon styler lives up to the hype (45,000+ five-star ratings give me hope!).”—Nicola Fumo, shopping writer and editor

Yovela High-Waisted Sweatpants

Amazon

Amazon

“I'm using October Prime Day to finally replace some of my beloved sweatpants that I bought early on in the pandemic. We highlighted this top-rated pair in a story earlier this month, and I haven't stopped thinking about them since. I love their baggy silhouette and all the different colors they come in (21 to be exact).”—Lindsey Greenfeld, shopping editor

Stasher Reusable 1/2 Gallon Storage Bag

Amazon

Amazon

I've said it before and I'll say it again — I buy Stasher bags every Amazon Prime Day, and I really think you should too. I'm never not using at least three of these indestructible silicone storage bags at any given time.”—Laura Gurfein, commerce director

Belif The True Cream Moisturizer

Amazon

Amazon

$38

$27

“Now's also the perfect time to stock up on my go-to moisturizer. I've been using the Belief Aqua Bomb for years and I'm completely obsessed with its lightweight formula that quickly absorbs into my skin, not to mention that it makes my face and neck feel soft and supple throughout the day. It's one of the few bottles that gets empty in my skincare routine.”—Lindsey Greenfeld, shopping editor

Levoit Air Purifier

Amazon

Amazon

$100

$81

“My allergies have been terrible lately, and after doing a bit of research, I think my home could really benefit from an air purifier. I've had my eye on this Levoit one because it's compact and there are multiple filter options to choose from to best fit your needs. I'll probably get the pet filter to help with dander and odor.”—Alex Nelson, shopping editor and strategist

Unnivoll Muslin Burp Cloths

Amazon

Amazon

$30

$20

“I'm due in a little over a month and everyone (including TikTok) keeps telling me that I need a boatload of burp cloths. These extra large gradient-colored muslin cloths will surely cover a lot of surface area to protect against spit-up (oh, the glamor). Safety is most important, though, and these are certified to meet Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines.”—Lindsey Metrus, shopping director

Qggqdd 3-Pack High-Waisted Biker Shorts

Amazon

Amazon

$22

$16

“I can't stop buying these buttery soft biker shorts. I add them to my cart during every Amazon sales event, because they are truly my favorite shorts to wear 24/7. I wear them while running errands, during light workouts, and to sleep. If they are clean, I'm putting them on. And to increase my chances of finding clean biker shorts in my drawers, I keep buying more when they're on sale.”—Erin Johnson, senior shopping editor

Kitchellence 4-in-1 Knife Sharpener

Amazon

Amazon

$30

$10

“I was so impressed by this knife sharpener kit that I'm buying one for my brother while it's just $10. I knew my knives were dull, but I didn't realize how much until I used this clever find. With just a few swipes, my knives functioned like they were brand new.”—Jessica Leigh Mattern, Amazon commerce director

Liquid I.V. Sugar-Free Hydration Multiplier

Amazon

Amazon

Oqq 3-Piece Tank Tops

I tend to use it to layer under any button-downs I wear and with a pair of jeans for a casual look.”—Melissa Chavez, growth & content strategy associate director

Benebone Wishbone Durable Dog Chew

Amazon

Amazon

$30

$16

“This bacon-flavored Benebone chew toy is my dog's absolute favorite! I've purchased it at least five or six times over the past few years, and every time I open it out of the box, she gets tail-wagging happy. It's very durable and long-lasting, and the design of it makes it easy for her to hold between her paws to get the best chomp.”—Alex Nelson, shopping editor and strategist

Poppi Sparkling Prebotic Soda, 12-Pack

Amazon

Amazon

$30

$21

“It annoys me that there is no discount for buying a 12-pack of these from Amazon compared to buying them individually — imagine if a dozen Diet Cokes cost $30! It’s madness. I can only stomach buying these delicious, limited-ingredient, probiotic drinks while they’re 30 percent off.”—Nicola Fumo, shopping writer and editor

FurZapper Pet Hair Remover for Laundry

Amazon

Amazon

$13

$7

“I've come to terms with the fact that, as a Golden Retriever owner, I'm just going to have to accept hair everywhere. But these little Fur Zappers definitely make a difference in removing a good amount of it from my clothes in the washer and dryer — I typically just use mine in the latter. They're easy to toss right in and I can get a bunch of uses out of them by simply rinsing them with a little dish soap to regain their stickness.”—Alex Nelson, shopping editor and strategist

Fearless Body and Clothing Tape

Amazon

Amazon

$14

$12

“I bought this double-sided body and clothing tape to wear with a dress last year, and it is such a game changer. I have since used it with various tops and even skirts — once you apply this tape, your clothing won't budge. I've brought this little box on trips, and these small tape strips helped some of my friends out in a pinch with outfits that weren't quite staying in place. I'm grabbing another box; I don't ever want to be without any tape.”—Jennifer Maldonado, senior commerce editor

Bagsmart Travel Jewelry Organizer

Amazon

Amazon

$20

$14

“After having to untangle yet another necklace during a vacation, I bought this travel jewelry organizer so I can bring all my jewelry without any risk of damage. I love how flat and small it is yet holds so much. It's been easy to keep in my personal bag while on recent vacations to Portland and Spain; definitely one of my favorite purchases this year.”—Melissa Chavez, growth & content strategy associate director
