Ralph Lauren Steps Down as CEO of His Company
Colonel Sanders may be back at the chicken shop he built thanks to the magic of makeup and comedian Norm MacDonald, but generally, when the founder of a business leaves, it's a big deal. Which is why the announcement that 75-year-old purveyor of pony-embroidered polo shirts, Ralph Lauren, was handing the CEO reins of his company to former Old Navy president Stefan Larsson was a landmark moment for one of America's most revered menswear brands. What does that mean for the multi-tiered fashion company? Well, hopefully it'll be steered out of the dire financial straits in which it currently finds itself. The deal is described as more of a partnership, so Ralph will still be fairly involved in the company. Which means you shouldn't expect too much of a style reboot. As Lauren told The New York Times: "When they start designing things I can't understand, I'll quit. But I don't feel like I'm stepping back now."
