‘13 Reasons Why’ Shuts Down Production Due To Devastating Northern California Wildfires
Production on Season 2 of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, executive produced by Selena Gomez, was shut down yesterday. The breakout drama, from Paramount TV, films in Vallejo in the Northern California area that has been ravaged by wildfires.
The unplanned hiatus has been extended for two more days, tomorrow and Thursday, since fires have not been contained and smoke in the area is pretty thick at various times depending on the wind. Filming is slated to resume Sunday (Friday and Saturday were already planned days off).
Cast and crew members who wanted to leave have been flown home for the break as a courtesy since many of them reside in the fire zones.
Santa Ana winds and dry conditions have fueled more than 20 wildfires in California this week, but the fires in Northern California’s wine country have been the most devastating and remain out of control. At least 15 people are dead, mostly in Sonoma County, and more than 200 reported missing as entire neighborhoods in Santa Rosa were engulfed and burned to the ground.

The 13-episosde second season of 13 Reasons Why, adaption of the bestselling 2007 YA book by Jay Asher, picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s death and the start of the characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery.
13 Reasons Why, slated to return in 2018, is directed by Oscar winner Tom McCarthy; written by Yorkey; and executive produced by Gomez, Yorkey, McCarthy, Joy Gorman, Michael Sugar and Steve Golin from Anonymous Content, Kristel Laiblin and Mandy Teefey.
