12 things to do around Chicago: LatiNxt at Navy Pier, the Chicago Tri and a show with very good dogs

Cultural and maybe literal gridlock is coming to the Chicago area this weekend, including with lots of live music and the Great American Dog Show at McCormick Place. Read on.

Chicago Triathlon

A reminder for anyone headed downtown that the Chicago Triathlon is this weekend. The main event is Sunday in Grant Park and the lakefront, with the bike portion shutting down Lower Wacker and southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The International (Olympic) distance race is a .93-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike and 6.2-mile run, with the Sprint roughly half that. Come cheer on your athlete or just watch the action, with the best vantage points in Grant Park itself. Free trolleys will circle the park.

Chalk Howard Street

This chalk art festival in Rogers Park is back outdoors and in-person for the first time in three years. Watch as street artists transform Howard Street with 2D and 3D artwork. If you want to express your own creativity, you can reserve a chalk square for $25. The event will also include live music such as Fruteland Jackson and Urban Rhythm.

Chicago Korean Festival

The Korean American Association of Chicago presents this festival of Korean culture with food, a K-pop contest and a hanbok fashion show. Learn about Korean calligraphy and traditional games and participate in a kimchi workshop.

LatiNxt Music Festival

The evening celebrates the music and heritage of two of the city’s largest Latino communities.

Great American Dog Show

This family-friendly event is a great place for animal lovers. Meet and play with more than 200 different dog breeds, watch demonstrations and competitions, and get advice from animal experts. Pizza City Fest

This two-day event aims to highlight the area’s pizza artisans while also educating the public about how to make better pizza at home. ‘Warhol’

This summer’s exhibition on the life and work of artist Andy Warhol at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art is drawing to a close.
