The "Maestro" director and star didn't win any of the three awards he was up for at the 2024 Academy Awards.

As Bradley Cooper's awards prospects for Maestro ultimately dwindled, his status as one of the most-nominated living entertainers without an Oscars win hit a crescendo at Sunday night's ceremony.

The 49-year-old multi-hyphenate didn't win any of the three honors he was up for during the 96th Academy Awards — including for writing, producing, and starring in the Best Picture-nominated Leonard Bernstein biographical drama — meaning he's now lost a near-record 12 career nominations.

Still, Cooper remains one of the most consistently recognized living artists in recent Oscars history, having amassed an impressive roster of nods across seven different films and five separate categories since 2013.

Beginning with his first Best Actor nomination for Silver Linings Playbook roughly 11 years ago, Cooper would go on to earn four additional acting notices for lead performances in American Sniper, A Star Is Born, and Maestro, while his supporting turn in American Hustle also scored recognition from the Academy in 2014.

As a producer, Cooper has five Best Picture nominations to his credit, both for projects he starred in (American Sniper, A Star Is Born, Nightmare Alley, and Maestro) and one (2019's Joker) he did not.

Finally, Cooper's scripts were nominated for both Original Screenplay in 2024 (Maestro) and Adapted Screenplay in 2019 (A Star Is Born), rounding out his list of a dozen nominations to date.

Cooper's total does not, however, make him the most-nominated living person to have never won an Oscar. That distinction belongs to sound mixer Greg P. Russell, who has 16 nominations in Sound, ranging from 2012's Skyfall all the way back to 1989's Black Rain, plus one nomination for 13 Hours that was rescinded the day before the 2017 Oscars after the Academy determined Russell hadl violated campaign rules.

Other widely-nominated entertainers who've achieved multiple nominations without a competitive victory include songwriting icon and 15-time nominee Diane Warren (who received an Honorary Award from the Academy in 2022) as well as legendary actress Glenn Close, who has eight overall nominations.

Looking toward the future, Cooper's upcoming slate looks fit to, at the very least, bring the actor more awards attention — particularly Steven Spielberg's currently untitled reimagining of the story surrounding Steve McQueen's titular Bullitt character, and Cooper's next directorial outing, Is This Thing On?, which was written by Will Arnett.
