12 big fall concerts and more not to miss around Indianapolis

With this fall's crop of shows come the opening and closing of artistic chapters as well as popular returns.

John Mayer will set his sights on Central Indiana for the second time in four months, extending his solo acoustic tour after performing here with Dead & Company in June. Kiss and Aerosmith will stop in to wave at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on their goodbye tours. And Dance Kaleidoscope will usher in its next era with a new artistic director.

Here are 12 of fall's biggest concerts, plays and more that you'll want to mark on your calendar.

Luis Miguel

8 p.m. Oct. 6 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St. Tickets available online at gainbridgefieldhouse.com.

Mexican superstar Luis Miguel will bring his 2023 tour to Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The tour has sold out nearly every city it has played in North and South America, with Indianapolis being one of the few cities with tickets remaining.

WWE Fastlane

Oct. 7 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tickets available online.

For the first time since 2016, WWE will bring a premium live event (previously known as a pay-per-view) to Indianapolis. Fastlane will also air through NBC's Peacock streaming service.

The show was announced by former Indianapolis Colts punter and current WWE commentator/occasional wrestler Pat McAfee.

John Mayer

Oct. 17 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tickets available online.

Singer-songwriter John Mayer will extend his solo acoustic tour into Indianapolis in October.

It will be Mayer's second visit to central Indiana in four months. He performed with his Dead & Company bandmates at Ruoff Music Center in June.

'New Horizon'

Oct. 19-22 at Indiana Repertory Theatre, 140 W. Washington St. dancekal.org

With new Artistic Director Joshua Blake Carter, Dance Kaleidoscope will open another chapter in its history with this fittingly named first mainstage concert of the season.

Janice Chandler-Eteme

Oct. 27-28 at Hilbert Circle Theatre, 45 Monument Circle. indianapolissymphony.org

With the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the soprano will perform the words of President John F. Kennedy and poet Robert Frost in "JFK: The Last Speech" by Adolphus Hailstork. Also on the program will be Brahms' First Symphony and Joan Tower's "Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman #6" under the baton of Alexander Shelley.

Aerosmith

7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tickets available online.

Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Aerosmith claim to be calling it quits after 50 years, and the group is bringing a tour that also features The Black Crowes to Gainbridge.

Tickets for Central Indiana's apparent last look are fairly scarce, so don't wait.

OnyxFest

Nov. 3-12 at IndyFringe Basile Theatre, 719 E. St. Clair St., and the Crispus Attucks High School Auditorium, 1140 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. onyxfest.com

Africana Repertory Theatre of IUPUI's theater festival focused on the stories of Black playwrights will return with five works audiences can see across several dates in early to mid-November. Among the subjects are a man who must contend with his past; dating, marriage, sexuality and domestic violence from a male perspective; and generations of women dealing with the impending death of a family elder.

David Foster and Katharine McPhee

Nov. 4 at the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts, 1 Carter Green in Carmel. thecenterpresents.org

Power couple David Foster, who's known for his work on songs like Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me," and "Waitress" singer Katharine McPhee will give a performance brimming with hits and anecdotes about the artists and big life moments behind them.

Pink will bring her "Trustfall" tour to Indianapolis, with Grouplove set to open.

'Anne Frank's Tree'

The Ann Katz Festival of Books and Arts will host preview of "Anne Frank’s Tree," by Victoria Bond, performed by a quartet from the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. The ensemble will premiere the full version in January 2024. The piece derives its name from the chestnut tree in front of Frank's Amsterdam home, from which a sapling was planted in front of The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

'Carmen'

Nov. 10-12 at Tarkington Theater at the Center for the Performing Arts, 3 Carter Green in Carmel. indyopera.org/carmen.html

Expect to hear the famous "Habanera" and "Toreador Song" in the beloved opera by Georges Bizet. In a drama filled with dancing and bull fighting, the title character seduces the soldier Don José, who leaves behind his former life and love to pursue her.

Kiss

7:30 p.m. Nov. 25 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tickets available online.

"The hottest band in the world" will return to Indianapolis in November. Like Aerosmith, the show marks the combination of the band's 50th anniversary and farewell to life on the road.

The show will almost certainly sell out.
