11-Year-Old Arrested In Florida For Shooting Two Football Teammates

An 11-year-old boy was arrested in Florida this week for shooting two 13-year-olds. The three were reportedly all teammates on the same football roster.

NBC News reported that an altercation went down between the three on Monday (Oct. 2). The three boys got into an argument that turned physical during football practice, and the shooter sought revenge after practice concluded.

The police secured surveillance footage on Tuesday (Oct. 3), which documented all that went down at Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka, Fla. The shooter retrieved a gun from his mother’s SUV, approached his two teammates, shot one of them in the arm, and another in the back. Watch the footage below.

The 11-year-old was taken into custody by police and charged with second-degree attempted murder. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and one of them required surgery and ultimately was left in a stable condition. Both boys are expected to make a full recovery with no detrimental injuries that affect their livelihood.

“We shouldn’t have 11-year-olds that have access to guns and think they can resolve a dispute with a firearm,” Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley said in a press conference on Tuesday. “We see this way too often in our society now of juveniles—young juveniles, and they’re getting younger every day—that have access to guns, but the more disturbing part is they believe that gun, that firearm, is a resolution to their problems—and it’s not a resolution to anybody’s problems.”

Gun violence has plagued this country for decades, whether it be independent situations, school shootings, or mass shootings. The Gun Violence Archive reported that, as of Sept. 30, 571 people have been killed and 1,947 people have been injured in 487 shootings this year.
