Nashville, Tennessee has — for many years — been known as “the Country Music Capital of the World,” or more simply as “Music City.” And indeed, the city supports a healthy live music scene and is home to world-famous venues like the Grand Ole Opry and the Bluebird Café, where musicians like Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift played before they hit it big, not to mention the Country Music Hall of Fame. And because of its music scene, Nashville has cultivated neighborhoods full of country artists since the good ol’ days of Johnny Cash and June Carter.

But musicians aren’t the only people that call Nashville home. With its rolling hills, temperate climate and bustling downtown, the “Athens of the South” — another well-deserved nickname for the increasingly pricey city — has attracted a lot of attention from West Coast folks looking to give their sun-soaked bones a bit of country comfort.

And what’s not to love about Nashville? While there were bygone times when the average Joe was afraid to venture downtown, those days are long gone. In 2020, the city sports a trendy downtown scene with crowded music venues, cosmopolitan-influenced restaurants, lively bars and clubs. For the outdoorsy types, the wide and lazy Cumberland river cuts through the eastern part of the city, so there’s plenty of places that accommodate a pleasant jog or a riverbank-adjacent yoga mat. And while other parts of the South may be known for their legendary ‘cue, gumbo or what-have-you, Nashville has staked its own niche claim to the region’s culinary fare: its iconic hot fried chicken. Yum.

Being the gateway to the South, Nashville has plenty of genteel neighborhoods for people of means. There’s the recently revitalized downtown area, hipster-approved East Nashville, and the upscale areas of Belle Meade, Green Hills and plenty more. Plus, compared to Los Angeles housing prices, homes in Nashville are still fairly affordable — a person of means can buy a few acres, and a large house to go with it, without breaking the bank.

Here are 11 A-list celebrities who’ve laid down the cash and made the commitment to buy a home in Music City, U.S.A.
