100-plus fun things to do in November near Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice and Punta Gorda

We'll soon leave October and its lineup of local events, including all our area Halloween festivities, but not to worry if you're looking for more fun ways to get out and explore our community: November will bring even more events to town.

Some of our biggest annual events will make their return next month, including the sand-sculpting Siesta Key Crystal Classic competition on world-famous Siesta Beach, the Florida International Air Show in Punta Gorda and renaissance festivals in Myakka City and Sarasota. There'll also be festivities for Día de los Muertos, Veteran's Day and the winter holiday season — including a new event featuring a locally based celebrity. And of course, there'll be plenty of the concerts, stage productions and art exhibitions our area regularly hosts, especially when our local performing arts venues are amid their new seasons.

To help keep track of it all, here's a list of more than 100 events taking place in November in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties, listed in roughly chronological order. Event details are subject to change.

Celtic Thunder Odyssey

Matthew Graybil

Sarasota MOD Weekend

The annual festival celebrating the legacy and global impact of the Sarasota School of Architecture (aka Sarasota Modern) this year will center around the centennial of renowned Sarasota School architect Victor Lundy, honoring him with an exhibition and symposium that jointly trace his life and legacy. FLAFlamenco

The FLAFlamenco festival offers a weekend of traditional and contemporary Flamenco dance and music. Israel Fernandez and Diego del Morao perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2, bringing new elements to traditional styles. ‘Later Life’

Playwright A.R. Gurney mixes comedy and pathos with this tender play about two people who rekindle a romance after 30 years. Austin has spent his life convinced that something terrible is going to happen to him. ‘The Foreigner’

In Larry Shue’s comedy at the Charlotte Players, a shy proof reader visits a rural fishing lodge in Georgia where he takes on a new personality by pretending to be a foreigner who doesn’t speak English. Suddenly he has a lot of friends as the locals talk about one another freely, not realizing that Charlie can actually understand what they are saying. ‘The Cactus League in Grapefruit Country’

Tons of Fun Touch-A-Truck

The second annual event will give kids (and adults) the chance to climb into, play with and learn about the vehicles they see throughout their community every day, along with local vendors, food trucks, a DJ, raffle prizes and giveaways, and a kids zone area with inflatables, carnival games, train rides, a foam party and more. ‘The Little Sweep’

Sarasota Youth Opera brings back Benjamin Britten’s engaging piece for the first time in five years. It’s the story of a group of children who work to help save a young chimney sweep who has been apprenticed to a cruel master. ‘Homeland of My Body’

Perfect Pitch Luncheon

‘Pass Over’

Playwright Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu reimagines Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot,” resetting it to inner city Chicago, where two men, Moses and Kitch, wait on the corner, talking and hoping that today will turn out different than all the other days. Veterans Day Parade

The annual Veterans Day parade will begin at Osprey Avenue and Main Street in downtown Sarasota and move westward on Main Street, with marching bands, antique military vehicles, and two local World War II veterans in the front of the parade. The parade will make its way to Chaplain J.D. Veterans Day in Song

‘Bashert – Some Things Are Meant to Be’

Sarasota’s Lynne Bernfield, a performer, songwriter, therapist and interviewer, returns with a revised edition of her solo show that celebrates destiny and the way things come together in life. ‘Pretty Woman: The Musical’

Canadian musician, singer and songwriter Bryan Adams partnered with songwriter Jim Vallance to turn the hit 1990 film “Pretty Woman” into a Broadway musical. The film starred Richard Gere as a wealthy businessman who helps transform a Hollywood prostitute (played by Julia Roberts) into a more respectable and glamorous companion. Dave Koz and Friends Christmas Tour

‘The Christmas Express’

Life seems to get better around the Holly Railway station after Leo Tannenbaum shows up out of nowhere just before Christmas Eve. Suddenly, the station manager, Hilda, no longer feels like it’s the most hopeless place in the world. An old radio comes back to life, carolers sound better than ever and the small town captures the Christmas Spirit. Is that all because of Leo? ‘Joyful! Joyful!’

‘Take it to the Limit’
