10 Ways Taylor Swift Teased “The Tortured Poets Department ”with Her Outfits

Taylor Swift loves dropping style Easter eggs about her new music, and The Tortured Poets Department was no different.

Leading up to the release of her 11th studio album, the "Down Bad" singer dropped subtle clues about the album's moody theme and poetic aesthetic with her wardrobe.

While her Midnights era was defined by moon-themed apparel and astrology accessories, The Tortured Poets Department has been characterized by dark academia outfits, including lots of blazers, tailored suits and muted hues.

She gave the biggest Easter egg about the album when she attended the 2024 Grammys in a black-and-white look that paralleled the album's sepia tone-colored cover and a necklace that paid tribute to actress Clara Bow (whom she penned a song after on the album).

Throughout the summer of 2023, Swift was frequently seen stepping in and out of the studio in New York City (possibly recording The Tortured Poets Department?) and her outfits leaned into preppy, schoolgirl-style.

On one outing in June, Swift paired lace-up oxfords, crew-length socks and a pleated blue skirt with an oversized light blue and white striped blouse, which appeared to be from The Row, the same brand Swift dons in her The Tortured Poets Department album cover.

Swift looked like she was ready to hit the Tortured Poets Department board room as she dined with Sophie Turner and Haim in N.Y.C. in September 2023. Keeping with the sepia tone of the album cover, she paired the look with some subtle gold jewelry and, of course, her signature red lip.

Of course, Swift's biggest style Easter egg about the album came at the Grammys in February 2024, where she officially announced the album. Going with the black-and-white theme of the album, Swift donned a draping white gown with stylish opera gloves. She even gave a nod to Clara Bow (the namesake behind one of her songs) as she wore a clock choker necklace set to 12 o'clock.
