Netflix has enough English-language horror movies to keep you binge-watching for weeks, but don’t overlook the broad selection of international frights the streamer also has on offer. Here are 10 titles—mostly recent Netflix arrivals—that were all released in their home countries in the past few years.

Death Whisperer

A smash hit in Thailand when it hit theaters last year, this new-to-Netflix possession chiller about a family menaced by a sinister spirit is said to be inspired by The Evil Dead, as well as maybe a true story. Watch on Netflix.

Disappear Completely

This 2022 Mexican release follows a crime-scene photographer who brushes up against something evil while on assignment—and is soon very distressed to realize his five senses are beginning to slip away. Watch on Netflix.

The Conference

In this Swedish slasher comedy featuring incredible gore and very dark humor, a corporate retreat at an isolated campground devolves from “tedious team-building exercises” to “running and screaming from a masked killer,” with some literal and metaphorical back-stabbing as part of that. Watch on Netflix.

El Conde

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín (Neruda, Jackie, Spencer) directed and co-wrote this 2023 satirical black comedy that asks: “What if dictator Augusto Pinochet was actually an ancient vampire with a death wish?” It received an Oscar nomination for its striking cinematography.Watch on Netflix.

There’s Something in the Barn

io9's review called this holiday horror release a blend of Christmas Vacation and Gremlins, and while it does feature American characters (Martin Starr plays the lead), it’s a Norwegian production about a family dismayed to learn their ancestral farm is also home to some not-so-friendly elves. Watch on Netflix.

Indigo

This 2023 Indonesian release follows sisters whose psychic gifts make them a magnet for supernatural forces. When the younger of the two comes under ghostly attack, her older sister must scramble to protect her. (The version on Netflix obviously has an option for English subtitles; we could not find a trailer that did, at least on YouTube.) Watch on Netflix.

Viking Wolf

Here’s another Norwegian creature feature—but instead of elves, 2022's Viking Wolf follows a teen girl who’s secretly transforming into a werewolf, which would be agonizing enough even if her mother wasn’t a cop investigating all the brutal attacks around town. Watch on Netflix.

Re/Member

This 2022 release from Japan follows a group of high-schoolers trapped in a Groundhog Day/Edge of Tomorrow-ishtime loop that requires them to solve a supernatural mystery if they ever want to restart their lives again. Watch on Netflix.

The Swarm

This 2020 French release follows a mother who tries to raise locusts as a protein source after her husband’s sudden death. The failed farm venture morphs into something far scarier when the insects develop a taste for human blood. Watch on Netflix.

The Trip

Here’s one more Norwegian film for the list: Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) directed this 2021 action horror comedy about a husband and wife (Aksel Hennie, Noomi Rapace), each of whom plan to kill the other during a weekend getaway—but must then team up when a trio of fugitives crash their murder party. Watch on Netflix.
