With the forecast calling for a mostly clear and warm weekend, why not take advantage of this weekend's outdoor entertainment? Grove City is offering two al fresco options: a Friday evening concert by the Central Ohio Brass Band and the C-Town Cruisers' Independence Day Car Show on Saturday.

If you prefer your amusement in the comfort of air conditioning, there's plenty of that as well, from a whimsical theater production to a smorgasbord of concerts for all tastes.

Family-friendly fun will come in the form of "Bluey's Big Play," the stage adaptation of the wildly popular kids' show that's stopping at the Lincoln Theatre for four performances on Friday and Saturday.

Weathervane weaves comedy into classic tale

Weathervane Playhouse, 100 Price Road, Newark, will put a humorous spin on a classic fairy tale when “Once Upon a Mattress” opens Thursday and runs through July 8. The play, adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's "The Princess and the Pea," finds brash Princess Winnifred the Woebegone attempting to succeed where other princesses have failed: in taking the Prince Dauntless’ hand in marriage. None of the others could pass the tests set before them by the prince's domineering mother, Queen Aggravain. Will Winnifred be the first? Find out by attending one of these performances: 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; 2 p.m. Saturday; and 7:30 p.m. July 4-8. Tickets cost $15-$37, except on July 4, when the general admission price is $19. Zac Brown Band to serve 'Chicken Fried' country

The Zac Brown Band, which rocketed up the country music charts in 2008 with its No. 1 debut single, "Chicken Fried," will come to Nationwide Arena, 200 W. Nationwide Blvd., with supporting act King Calaway at 7 p.m. Friday. The Atlanta-based Southern rockers have more than a dozen No. 1 hit singles under their belts and have had six consecutive albums make the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, and five consecutive albums debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. They've also won three Grammys, sold more than 30 million singles, and collaborated with artists including Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, Jason Mraz, Dave Grohl, Chris Cornell and Brandi Carlile. KISS tribute Kuarantine to feature wrestling star

Multi-hyphenate entertainer Chris Jericho and his KISS tribute band, Kuarantine, will "Rock and Roll All Nite" on Friday at King of Clubs, 6252 Busch Blvd. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. The versatile Jericho is a professional wrestler with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), as well as frontman for the band Fozzy, a podcast and radio host, author, movie producer, and head of a theme cruise. Kuarantine has enjoyed success at KISS conventions, on Jericho's Rock 'N' Wrestling cruises, and even on Billboard, where its single "Silver Spoon" reached No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Indicator Most Added chart. Brass band to play Summer Sizzle Concert

Grab a chair or blanket and head to Grove City's charming Town Center Park, 3359 Park St., at 7 p.m. Friday for an evening of music al fresco. As part of the city's Summer Sizzle Concert series, the Central Ohio Brass Band (COBB) will entertain concertgoers with a mix of patriotic marches and jazz favorites. Led by music director Matthew Shane Henry and associate music director C. Scott Smith, COBB was formed in 1989 and strives to preserve the tradition of the British brass band in central Ohio. Gamers to battle it out at Pokémon playoffs

If names like "Jigglypuff" and "Hoothoot" get your heart racing, you definitely gotta catch 'em all at the Pokémon North America International Championships (NAIC), which will be held Friday through Sunday in halls A and B of the Greater Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High St. Players will battle it out for thousands of dollars' worth of prizes and points needed to qualify for August's world championships in Yokohama, Japan. NAIC also features championships for Pokémon trading card, Pokémon video game, and Pokémon GO players. Hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Live coverage will be hosted on Twitch and YouTube throughout the weekend. Spectator passes are $10 until sold out. (rk9.gg)

'Bluey' bringing family, friends to the Palace Theatre

Bluey is a 6-year-old Blue Heeler pup who loves to play and invent games involving lots of other kids and grownups, especially her archaeologist dad, Bandit. Join them — along with Bluey's younger sister, Bingo, and mom, Chilli — as the canine clan comes to life in "Bluey's Big Play," a theatrical adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning children’s television series, coming to the Palace Theatre, 34 W. Broad St., at 6 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday. Featuring colorful puppets and sets, the family-oriented show lasts 50 minutes with no intermission. Tickets range from $29-$74. Grove City revs up for annual car show

Grove City will get a jump on the upcoming holiday with the third annual Independence Day Car Show being hosted with the C-Town Cruisers from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Town Center, 3378 Park St. Owners of cars, trucks, and bikes of all makes, models and years are welcome to participate by registering for $15 between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The first 50 registrants will receive dash plaques. Awards in categories including Best of Show and Most Patriotic will be announced at 3:30 p.m. The event also will offer food trucks, a DJ, and chances to win door prizes and a 50/50 raffle, each of which costs $5 for 20 tickets. Flautango to share Latin-flavored repertoire

Local duo Flautango, featuring Rodolfo Vazquez on flute and Sean Ferguson on guitar, will continue their mission to promote high-quality Latin music by giving a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at First English Lutheran Church, 1015 E. Main St. Guest vocalist Maricela Navarrete will join the pair, who have performed together for more than 12 years. The program will include tangos by Argentine composer-arranger and musician Astor Piazzolla, French composer Gabriel Fauré's "Pavane," and more. Among Flautango’s many achievements, Vazquez studied under world-celebrated Irish flutist Sir James Galway, and Ferguson has performed on modern and historical guitars and lutes as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. Superstar Sasha Colby to host drag show

Sasha Colby, who was crowned "America's Next Drag Superstar" in April's season 15 finale of "RuPaul's Drag Race," will host and headline, "Sasha Colby Boom," a drag showcase at The Sanctuary on Neil, 610 Neil Ave., on Monday. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. In addition to "Drag Race," Sasha won the Miss Continental competition, an annual drag queen pageant, in 2012. Other performers will include Amaya Sexton, one of Dayton's most noted drag queens, and Zhané Dawlingz, whose titles include Miss Platinum Gem City Newcomer and Miss Masque Newcomer, both won in 2016. A meet-and-greet with Sasha will follow the show. All tickets are reserved seating, with prices ranging from $75-$200, depending on seating choice. New Albany 5K raising funds for arts groups

Registration is still open for the annual New Albany Independence Day 5K Race, which will kick off with a toddler crawl at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday at Market Square, 180 Market St., New Albany. Events following the crawl with be a kids' fun run at 8 a.m. and a pet parade at 8:15 a.m., culminating in the 5K run and walk at 8:45 a.m., which begins and ends at Market Square. The race supports the New Albany Symphony’s programming and educational outreach, and many nonprofit performing arts groups in the community, several of which will be performing along the race route. Registration for adults is $45 through Friday, and $50 from Saturday to race day. The kids' fun run is $25 through race day, while the toddler crawl and pet parade are free. (NA5KRace.com)
