There are thousands of food Instagram accounts dedicated to comfort food recipes, plant-based eats, cities’ best dishes and more. However, one area that could use more attention on the platform is Caribbean cuisine.
It’s not always easy to find authentic Caribbean recipes, and as some food bloggers mention, that’s because these recipes are made with a pinch of this and a pinch of that — with feeling. But some bloggers have stepped up to create new recipes and write out old ones to share their culture with the masses.
These Caribbean-founded Instagram food accounts aren’t just pretty pictures of jerk salmon and lamb curry. Give them a follow to get the tips, tricks and recipes for making your own Caribbean food at home.
1. @alicaspepperpot
Alica Ramkirpal-Senhouse is a Caribbean-American food blogger who shares Caribbean recipes through her blog and Instagram account, Alica’s Pepperpot. “My goal is to encourage and inspire you to connect with flavors of the Caribbean using my recipes as a guideline,” she writes on her website.
2. @foodienationtt
Foodie Nation is a food website based in Trinidad and Tobago with a mission to promote the island and lift it up through food. You can find its recipes on its website, videos on Youtube and photos on Instagram. Hit follow and definitely give its recipe for curry crab-stuffed dumplings a try!
3. tchakayiti
Annick Mégie is a Haitian food blogger and photographer whose Instagram account, @tchakayiti, will definitely make you hungry. In 2019, she was a SAVEUR “Best Food Culture Blog” finalist, but her Caribbean recipes are all winners.
4. @typhaniecooks
Typhanie is a Jamaican-born, Florida-based food blogger who posts her Caribbean recipes straight to her Instagram account. And there is no shortage of delicious plantains!
5. jehancancook
Jehan is from Guyana and writes on her website that she started her blog because she found that there was a lack of authentic Caribbean recipes online. On Instagram, she shares those recipes along with a few modernized versions — all of which you’ll surely love.
6. @caribbeanpot
Chris H De La Rosa is the man behind @carribbeanpot, and he’s on a mission to bring Caribbean food to the masses. (And he’s really good at it.) Although he was born in Trinidad and Tobago and now lives in Ontario, Canada, he features recipes from all the Caribbean islands.
7. @cooklikeajamaican
There’s something extra sweet about this foodie Instagram account. Here, you’ll find Mama Fay teaching her daughter Angela (and their followers) how to cook like a Jamaican through family recipes old and new. And yes, most, if not all, of the recipes are rooted in Jamaican cuisine.
8. @thisbagogirl
If you want quick(ish) Caribbean recipes, @thisbagogirl is the Instagram account for you. Founder and food blogger Renz specializes in making easy-to-follow recipes designed for busy Caribbean moms like herself and for people who may be trying their hand at cooking Caribbean cuisine for the first time.
9. @wheresthefoodjo
If you’re not so much of a chef as you are a diner, Instagram account @wheresthefoodjo shares some of the best eats from all around Jamaica. Check it out to find the best ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken, peppered shrimp and more.
10. @trinicookstt
This Instagram account features all the Caribbean recipes created and shared on Cup of Joe Caribbean, a culinary lifestyle television show hosted by Joel Villafana in Trinidad and Tobago. The recipes are posted right in the captions, so you can like and save the posts to cook right away.
