Yolanda Hadid Defends Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner After Rebecca Romijn Says They Aren't ‘True Supermodels’

Rebecca Romijn found herself on the receiving end of several tweets from Gigi Hadid’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, after Romijn made comments to Entertainment Tonight implying Gigi’s modeling career – including work for Sports Illustrated, Maybelline, Tom Ford and GUESS, among others – was based more on her social media presence than her talent or hard work.

“No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue,” Romijn, 43, told ET when asked about “the new generation of models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.”

“So it is frustrating,” Romijn said. “I know a lot of people – legitimate fashion people – can’t stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion.

“They are not true supermodels,” she continued. “And the thing is, I have always looked to Vogue magazine to lead the way, not be a follower. … So I have been disappointed that fashion magazines have been supporting this trend of social media stars to set our style standards.”

Friday morning, the Real Housewives star, 52, began firing back. When Romijn tweeted that she “never talked smack” about Gigi or Jenner, calling them both “amazing & beautiful,” Yolanda wrote, “Kind, hard working and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry.”

In a tweet to another user, Yolanda wrote, “It’s THEIR hard work and daily commitment to their profession that got them where they R today #NoParentsInvolved.”

Another user tried to tell Yolanda that Romijn wasn’t speaking ill of Gigi or Jenner, to which Yolanda replied, “did you even bother to see what she said on entertainment tonight? No need 2 throw shade on hard-working children.”

For her part, Romijn seemed to be taking it all in stride, responding to Yolanda on Friday with: “Woohoo! Twitter beef cherry popped! you @YolandaHFoster @Andy” – for Bravo’s Housewives maestro Andy Cohen.
