Why the Grammy Awards Will Be Awkward for Beyoncé and Kanye

The 59th Grammy Awards nominations were announced on Dec. 6, and Beyoncé leads the field with nine, followed by Kanye West, Drake, and Rihanna, with eight each.

Beyoncé and Adele, who are competing in the top three Grammy categories, will square off for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Adele’s 25 are nominated for Album of the Year, with Beyoncé’s “Formation” and Adele’s “Hello” battling it out for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

While Kanye West received eight nominations, The Life of Pablo was excluded from the major categories, receiving nominations only in the rap categories. West did, however, garner nominations for Best Rap Album, Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Ultralight Beam,” and Best Rap Song for the same track.

Given West’s erratic behavior and verbal outbursts during his recent “Saint Pablo” tour, it’s no surprise that things might get a little awkward between the rap artist and Beyoncé at the 2017 awards show. Check out the video above to find out why.

The Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. James Corden will host the event at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
