Tyler Perry Explains Why He Sold His 35,000-Square-Foot Mansion

Tyler Perry cashed in big when he sold his not-so-humble abode in Atlanta for $17.5 million in May, making it the highest paid price ever for a private home in the Georgia city.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows star opened up to E! News recently about the sale of his monster estate.

“I know this sounds ridiculous, but I wanted more land so I bought more land outside of the city,” he said. It’s the same distance to the studio as my old house, but now I can have horses and pigs and organic vegetables."

His former mansion is a whopping 34,688 square feet and sits on 17 acres of land. The French provincial style home includes 7 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, an 18-seat theater, and a massive swimming pool with a waterfall.

The 45-year-old Madea mogul also recently received his first honorary degree from Tuskegee University.

"I’m Dr. Perry now,” he joked. “It was pretty exciting and also to have an opportunity to give a commencement speech to a bunch of kids who are going out to face the world. I wanted to leave them with something."
